PerformAI / KPI management software

How do employee KPIs connect to strategic progress?

The short answer

KPI management software organizes the measures used to track progress toward objectives. PerformAI supports strategic and employee KPIs, updates, composite indicators, data sources and formulas. Connecting employee measures to strategic objectives helps teams discuss individual contribution using the same performance context.

01 / The connected workflow

How do you manage connected KPIs in PerformAI?

A connected KPI needs more than a number: identify the objective it supports, its owner, the reporting period and how it contributes to a wider measure.

  1. Define the measure

Create a KPI with an owner and a clear target. Agree whether higher or lower is better, what period the value covers and which objective it informs.

  2. Connect and update

Link employee KPIs to the relevant composite indicator or objective. Configure data sources and formulas where appropriate, and choose a cadence that matches how often the data changes.

  3. Explain progress

Inspect the component values and progress explanation. Use check-ins and reviews to investigate gaps, rather than interpreting a summary percentage without its context.

02 / Worked example

Example: understand a weighted composite indicator

Suppose a team indicator combines two normalized component scores. The weighting below is an illustrative calculation, not a claim about a default PerformAI formula.

Illustrative example · sample data, not customer results
ComponentNormalized scoreWeightContribution
Response timeliness80 / 10060%48 points
Case resolution quality50 / 10040%20 points
Composite result—100%68 / 100

Calculation: (80 × 0.60) + (50 × 0.40) = 68. The result can hide the weaker quality score, so inspect both components. Actual aggregation depends on the configured formula, direction, weights and treatment of missing values.

03 / What to ask in a demo

What to ask in a demo

Can we trace a composite back to its components?

Ask to inspect the linked employee KPIs, weights or formula and the source of each value. The aggregate should be explainable to the people using it.

How fresh are the values?

Demonstrate a manual update or configured synchronization and its reporting period. Confirm the required cadence; do not assume every source updates in real time.

How are missing or incompatible values treated?

Test a missing update and measures with different units or directions. Agree on normalization and missing-data handling before relying on the summary.

04 / Questions & answers

Questions & answers

What is the difference between a KPI and a key result?

A KPI tracks an important measure over time. A key result specifies a measurable outcome for an objective within a defined period. Teams can use both, but should make their purpose and review cadence clear.

Does a good aggregate mean every employee is performing well?

No. Aggregation can hide variation and does not explain context or individual contribution on its own. Inspect component measures and use a manager review before drawing conclusions about a person.

Can PerformAI use external data?

PerformAI includes API and database data-source configuration, connection testing and synchronization workflows. Confirm the specific source, credentials, mapping and update cadence in your technical evaluation.
